CALM THE ALARM
We reduce the fight, flight and freeze response to your specific triggers – in session, not with homework. Most women feel some relief by the end of session one.
If you can’t switch off, startle easily, or feel braced for something bad even when nothing is wrong – this page is for you. It isn’t a flaw in you. It’s a nervous system doing exactly what it learned to do.

“I had some fairly extreme anxiety that was affecting me constantly for months. Sarah was wonderful in helping me understand why and then eliminating it. It only took 2 sessions.”

WHAT IT IS
It’s the constant, low-level scanning for threat: watching faces, listening for a change in tone, checking the phone, bracing for the next thing. Even in safe places. Even when you’re exhausted.
WHAT CAUSES IT
Hypervigilance is a learned threat response. At some point – a relationship, a childhood, a single event – your nervous system learned that danger could arrive without warning. So it stopped waiting for warnings.
The conscious brain · Prefrontal cortex
You can tell yourself the danger has passed. You can list all the reasons you’re fine. It doesn’t reach the part that’s doing the scanning.
The subconscious brain · Limbic system
The fight, flight, freeze response. It runs below conscious thought and doesn’t respond to reassurance – which is exactly why willpower and logic haven’t fixed it, and exactly where my treatment goes.
WHY THIS IS HAPPENING TO YOU
Hypervigilance almost always follows a period where staying alert kept you safe – emotionally or physically. A parent whose mood could turn. A partner you had to read carefully. An event that came out of nowhere. Your nervous system took the lesson seriously: don’t get caught out again.
The problem is that it never received the message that the danger ended. So it keeps running the same protection, in situations that no longer call for it. That isn’t weakness and it isn’t overreacting. It’s a system that was working very hard to protect you – and still is.
This is why resting more, thinking positively or ‘just relaxing’ hasn’t worked. You can’t talk a smoke alarm out of going off. You have to reset it.
There is nothing wrong with you. Your system is on high alert, trying to protect you. It can learn to stand down.
IS RECOVERY POSSIBLE?
Because hypervigilance is a learned response, it can be unlearned – at the level it lives, not the level you think at. That is what a Bespoke Therapy Program is built to do.
We reduce the fight, flight and freeze response to your specific triggers – in session, not with homework. Most women feel some relief by the end of session one.
Using attachment-focused EMDR and other proven methods, your nervous system files the original experiences away as past, not present – without you having to relive them.
Once the scanning stops, we rebuild confidence, self-trust and the sense that you can let your guard down and be safe.
Every program is written for you, session by session, with the result each one is working towards agreed before we begin – and progress measured as we go.
