WHAT IT IS

Rage is the fight response, with nowhere to go.

Anger is a normal signal that a boundary has been crossed. Rage is different: fast, disproportionate, physical, and out before you’ve decided anything. It’s the nervous system choosing fight on your behalf – usually in a situation that doesn’t call for it.

  • Zero to a hundredNo run-up. One moment calm, the next shouting, and no memory of the middle.
  • Snapping at the kidsThe smallest thing – a spilled drink, a question asked twice – and you’ve lost it.
  • Rage at your partnerFights that are far bigger than the thing that started them.
  • Irritability all dayA short fuse that everyone around you learns to tiptoe past.
  • Physical heatClenched jaw, hot face, a body that wants to throw something.
  • Shame afterwardsThe crash: guilt, apologies, and the quiet fear that this is who you are.

WHAT CAUSES IT

Anger is the first thing to go when the system is full.

A nervous system under sustained stress – disrupted sleep, too much to carry, something unresolved underneath – runs close to capacity all the time. There is no buffer. So an ordinary irritation lands on a system that’s already at the edge, and the fight response fires in full.

The conscious brain · Prefrontal cortex

Where the brakes are.

This is the part that would normally pause, consider and choose a response. Under threat, it goes offline in a fraction of a second – which is why ‘count to ten’ arrives too late.

The subconscious brain · Limbic system

Where the fight response fires.

The emotional brain decides there’s a threat and launches fight before you’re aware of it. Anger management teaches you to catch it afterwards. My treatment reduces what’s firing in the first place.

WHY THIS IS HAPPENING TO YOU

You’re not an angry person. You’re a person with no room left.

Rage in capable, loving women almost always comes from a system that has been over capacity for a long time – carrying a household, a relationship that takes more than it gives, a loss, an old wound that was never resolved. The anger isn’t about the spilled drink. It’s the pressure finding the only exit it has.

Often there is something older underneath: a time when you couldn’t fight back, or weren’t allowed to be angry at all. The fight response that was suppressed then is leaking out now, at the wrong targets. That is a system doing its best with an impossible load, not a flaw in you.

That’s why strategies that work on the outburst – breathing, walking away, counting – help but don’t fix it. They manage the overflow. They don’t reduce what’s filling the tank.

There is nothing wrong with you. Your system is on high alert, trying to protect you. It can learn to stand down.

IS RECOVERY POSSIBLE?

Yes. When the pressure is resolved, the fuse gets long again.

When the nervous system is brought back below capacity – the alarm calmed, the unresolved load processed – the fight response stops firing at ordinary life. Patience comes back, and so does the version of you that your family knows. That is what a Bespoke Therapy Program is built to do.

Step 01

CALM THE ALARM

We reduce the fight response to your specific triggers – in session, directly. Most women feel some relief by the end of session one.

Step 02

RESOLVE WHAT’S FILLING THE TANK

Using attachment-focused EMDR and other proven methods, the experiences underneath the pressure are processed and filed as past.

Step 03

REBUILD YOUR CALM AT HOME

With room back in the system, we rebuild boundaries, self-trust and the patient, present mother and partner you already are underneath.

Every program is written for you, session by session, with the result each one is working towards agreed before we begin – and progress measured as we go.
