WHAT I TREAT

Life after violence shows up in many ways.

What you lived through doesn’t end when you leave. It lives on in your reactions, your sleep, your sense of safety and your trust in yourself. This work is for when you’re safe — and your body hasn’t caught up.

No matter how long ago, or how long it lasted — your body can learn that it’s over.

Sarah Buckle
01.

Hypervigilance

Always braced, always scanning — a nervous system that never got the message you’re out.

02.

Startling easily

A raised voice, a slammed door, a footstep — and the whole system floods.

03.

Flashbacks and intrusive memories

Being pulled back into moments you’d give anything to leave behind.

04.

Nightmares and broken sleep

A body that won’t fully stand down at night.

05.

Shame and self-blame

Believing you should have left sooner, or that you somehow caused it.

06.

Difficulty trusting

Reading danger into every new relationship, or not being able to read anything at all.

07.

Feeling numb or detached

Shut down, distant from your own life — the system protecting you from feeling too much.

08.

Anxiety about them

Still watching for the car, the message, the knock.

09.

Guilt about the children

Carrying what they saw, and what you couldn’t prevent.

10.

Not recognising yourself

Looking at who you’ve become and not finding the woman you were.

WHY BEING SAFE HASN’T MADE YOU FEEL SAFE

Your mind knows you left. Your body doesn’t.

You did the hardest thing. You got out. And still your heart races at a sound, your sleep won’t settle, and you’re braced for something that isn’t coming.

THE PREFRONTAL CORTEX

Where you know you’re safe.

Facts, distance, the locks on the door — the level reassurance works at. It knows it’s over. It can’t switch off the alarm below.

THE LIMBIC SYSTEM

Where the alarm is still ringing.

A nervous system that learned, over years, that danger could arrive at any moment. It never got the all-clear — which is exactly where my work goes, gently.

You know you’re safe. Your nervous system is still waiting for the next time. That’s the gap being out can’t bridge on its own.

WHAT A SESSION INVOLVES

Three simple steps.

01.

ESTABLISH SAFETY FIRST

We begin gently, at your pace, building a felt sense of safety in the room before anything else. You never have to recount what happened. You’re in control, always.

02.

STAND THE ALARM DOWN

A simple, gentle process, a little like a visualisation, that helps your nervous system release the threat response and finally register that it’s over. You stay fully conscious and safe throughout.

03.

REBUILD TRUST IN YOURSELF

Then we build forward — your sense of self, your boundaries, your confidence in your own judgement. Most clients feel a noticeable shift by the end of their very first session.

My personal mission is to get my client at least some relief, from their very first session.

REAL STORIES, REAL RESULTS

What it feels like on the other side.

Sarah is a person who can connect to anyone instantly. She gets you and is passionate to get you to where you want to be. She has done it for herself and she has the tools to get you there. You won’t regret it.
Sarah’s approach is wildly unconventional — and effective! Therapists I’ve seen previously have wanted me to rehash my past until I’m blue in the face. Literally a life-changing experience.

WHY WORK WITH ME

The difference you’ll actually feel.

01.

SAFETY FIRST, ALWAYS

Safety isn’t an afterthought here. It’s the foundation, the pace and the whole point. We move only as fast as your nervous system allows.

02.

NO RELIVING REQUIRED

You’ll never be asked to recount or relive what happened. The approach resolves the trauma gently, without reopening the wound to heal it.

03.

YOU’LL BE BELIEVED

There’s no convincing to do, and no judgement about how long you stayed. I understand how this works, and how capable women get trapped in it.

04.

NO WAITLIST, NO REFERRAL

Private practice means no GP referral and no Medicare waitlist. Begin when you’re ready.

IS THIS RIGHT FOR YOU?

My approach isn’t for everyone — and I’d rather be honest about that.

This is for you if…

  • You’re out and safe, and your body hasn’t caught up
  • You’ve done the practical steps and the support groups, and the fear is still there
  • You’re ready to actually resolve it, not keep managing the symptoms
  • You want a gentle approach that doesn’t require you to relive it

It may not be the fit if…

  • You’re still in danger, or not yet safe — please contact 1800RESPECT (1800 737 732) or 000 first; this work is for when you’re out
  • You’re in acute crisis and need immediate clinical or psychiatric care
  • You’re looking for ongoing, open-ended talk therapy rather than resolution
  • You’re not quite ready — and that timing deserves respect

If you’re still in the situation, your safety comes first — 1800RESPECT (1800 737 732) is available 24 hours a day, and 000 in an emergency. When you’re safe, the free consult is exactly where we work out, gently, whether this is right for you.

AND IF I’M NOT THE RIGHT HELP?

My promise.

I’ll get you to whoever is.

Sometimes the aftermath is being held in place by something else — complex trauma, a mood disorder, or a level of need that calls for specialist care.

If that becomes apparent while we’re working together, I won’t leave you to work it out alone. Your investment goes toward identifying what’s actually going on and coaching you toward the right approach — and I’ll act as your champion through the system, so you get a shortcut instead of years of trial and error.

I can’t stand the thought of needless suffering. You’ll be delivered safely to the right help, either way.

In 98% of the cases I take on, I am the right help. The other 2% leave with a clear path to the person who is.

DID YOU KNOW?

I can also help you resolve…

  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Anxiety
  • Panic attacks

  • Narcissistic abuse recovery
  • Guilt and shame
  • Low confidence and self-esteem
  • Separation and divorce
  • Boundaries and people-pleasing
  • Sleeplessness
  • Sadness and low mood
  • Grief and loss

LET’S BE HONEST

You don’t need to keep living as if it’s still happening.

The jolt at every unexpected sound. The nights you don’t sleep. The distance you keep from people who’ve done nothing wrong, because closeness doesn’t feel safe. None of that has to be the shape of your life now.

So let’s let your body finally stand down. Gently. Together.

BEFORE YOU BOOK

Your questions, answered.

01.Do I have to talk about what happened?

No — and this matters most of all. Because we work with the subconscious rather than re-analysing the past, you never have to recount what was done. You share only what you choose to, and you remain safe and in control throughout.

02.I left years ago. Why am I still like this?

Because your nervous system never received the all-clear. How long ago it happened doesn’t determine how long it takes to resolve — and trauma carried for years can still shift, often more gently and quickly than people expect.

03.Is this the right support if I’m still in the relationship?

Not yet. If you’re still in the situation, your safety comes first. 1800RESPECT (1800 737 732) can help you plan safely, and 000 is there in an emergency. This work is for when you’re out.

04.Will I be hypnotised, or lose control?

No. You remain fully conscious and in control at every moment. The change work is gentle, closer to a guided visualisation than anything you’ve seen on stage.
