Emotional Regulation · Online Worldwide

Overwhelm isn't a willpower problem.
It's a nervous system problem.

Steady, grounded, back in control – in sessions, not months

The snapping, the spiralling, the flood of emotion that arrives before you can stop it – that isn't a character flaw, and you can't think your way out of it. I work with the nervous system that drives it, so calm becomes your baseline instead of something you're always chasing. Rapid, lasting, and online worldwide.

What I work with

Dysregulation shows up in many ways.

It isn't always dramatic. Sometimes it's a short fuse, sometimes a shutdown, sometimes a wave of feeling that takes hours to pass – but the source, and the way through, is the same.

Snapping & reactivity

Reacting faster and harder than you mean to – then the guilt and self-criticism that follows.

Emotional flooding

A wave of feeling that arrives all at once and overwhelms you before you can think clearly.

Anger & irritability

A simmering tension that spills over at small things – out of proportion to what triggered it.

Shutting down

Going numb, withdrawing, or freezing when emotion gets too big – the other side of overwhelm.

Mood swings

Feeling fine one moment and flattened the next, with little warning and even less control over the shift.

Rumination & replay

Looping over conversations and mistakes long after they're over, unable to let the feeling settle.

Guilt & self-blame

The relentless aftermath – replaying how you reacted and deciding it proves something is wrong with you.

Hypervigilance

Always braced, always scanning – never quite able to relax even when everything is fine.

Feeling "too much"

A lifelong sense of being too sensitive, too intense, too emotional – and the shame that travels with it.

Difficulty calming down

Once activated, struggling to bring yourself back – the feeling lingers long after the moment has passed.

Reactivity with loved ones

The people you most want to be patient with get the sharpest edges – partners, children, family.

Stress & burnout

A nervous system that's been running on high for so long that overwhelm has become your normal.

However it shows up for you – this is a pattern, not a flaw.

Is this right for you?

Who I work with best.

My approach isn't for everyone – and I'd rather be honest about that. Here's how to know if it's the right fit for you.

This is for you if…
  • You're capable and composed on the outside, but reactive or flooded underneath
  • You've tried breathing techniques and self-talk, and you still get hijacked
  • You're ready to actually change the response – not just white-knuckle through it
  • You want steadiness that holds under pressure, not just on calm days
  • You're looking for a private, premium approach without waitlists or referrals
× It may not be the fit if…
  • Your symptoms are primarily driven by a medical, hormonal, or neurological condition
  • You're in acute crisis and need immediate clinical or psychiatric care
  • You're looking for ongoing, open-ended talk therapy rather than resolution
  • You're not quite ready to make a change right now – and that's okay

Not sure where you sit? That's exactly what the free consult is for. I'll tell you honestly whether I can help – and if I'm not the right person, I'll point you toward who is.

The science

Why "just stay calm" has never worked.

The usual advice is to manage it in the moment – count to ten, breathe, talk yourself down. It can take the edge off. But it almost never holds, and here's why.

Emotional reactions don't start in rational thought. They fire from the limbic system – the primitive, subconscious part of the brain that runs your fight, flight, freeze response. By the time your thinking brain catches up, the reaction has already launched.

That's why I don't work at the level of coping in the moment. I work directly with the system that fires underneath – recalibrating the threat response at the source, so the gap between feeling and reacting opens up and stays open.

What to expect

What a session actually involves.

A truly different approach – with the vast majority of clients feeling a meaningful shift in how they respond within the first session. In sessions, not months.

01
Find the trigger pattern

We map what sets it off

We start gently – the situations that hijack you, how the reaction shows up in your body, and where the pattern began. Because we work with the subconscious, you can share as much or as little as you're comfortable with. You're in control, always.

02
Do the change work

We recalibrate the response

I guide you through a gentle, structured process – a little like a guided visualisation – that helps your nervous system swap the old reactive pattern for a steadier, more grounded one you choose. You stay fully conscious throughout.

03
Test the results

We prove it landed

Before you leave the session, I take you through a process to confirm the change has taken hold – so you don't just hope you'll respond differently, you feel that you will. For most, a few sessions create a powerful, lasting result.

Why work with me

The difference you'll actually feel.

Lived experience

I've been where you are

I didn't learn about emotional overwhelm from a textbook. I lived years of a nervous system stuck on high alert – and made a complete recovery. I understand the toll it takes, and what steadiness feels like on the other side.

Results, not coping

Recalibration, not management

I'm not here to teach you more techniques to white-knuckle through. My singular focus is genuine, lasting change – resetting the response at its source so calm is simply your baseline.

Trauma-informed

A safe place to heal

Reactivity often has roots in past experience. My approach creates a safe, judgement-free space to heal – without the risk of re-living or re-traumatising what shaped it.

No waitlist · No referrals

Begin when you're ready

Private practice means no GP referral and no Medicare waitlist. And because clients resolve things quickly, I often have near-term availability. You can begin when the timing is right for you.

"I spent 10 years stuck and paralysed – reacting, then regretting. After one session with Sarah I could finally anchor into what works for me and respond on purpose, without the overwhelm. I can't recommend it enough."

Emma K. · Occupational Therapist · Brisbane

★★★★★

"The shaking, the racing thoughts before a hard conversation – gone. After one session I just spoke, calmly, like an equal. It was a completely different experience of myself."

The real question

What is the reactivity already costing you?

Most people focus on the cost of getting help. But living on a knife's edge has a price too – one you've been quietly paying for a long time.

The moments you snap at the people you love. The exhaustion of holding it together all day. The guilt that follows every overreaction. The closeness that slips away because no one – including you – ever feels quite safe from the next surge.

The question isn't whether you can afford to change it. It's how much longer you're willing to pay the cost of not.

Simple, transparent investment

What it costs to change it.

No packages to decode, no hidden fees. Just clear, honest pricing for work designed to be done in weeks, not years.

Before you book

Your questions, answered.

How is this different from seeing a psychologist?
A psychologist typically works with your conscious thoughts – helping you understand your reactions and build coping strategies. I work at the level beneath that, with the nervous-system response actually driving them. That's why the change tends to be faster and more lasting. Most of my clients come to me after therapy that helped them understand their reactivity, but never resolved it.
Will I just be learning more coping techniques?
No – that's the difference. Coping techniques try to manage a reaction after it's already fired. My work changes how the reaction fires in the first place, so you're not constantly managing in the moment. The aim is a steadier baseline, not a bigger toolkit.
Does this mean I'll stop feeling my emotions?
Not at all – and you wouldn't want that. The goal isn't to flatten your emotions; it's to restore the gap between feeling and reacting so your responses are yours to choose. You'll still feel deeply. You just won't get hijacked.
Do I have to relive my past or share painful details?
Not at all. Because we work with the subconscious rather than re-analysing the past, you can share as much or as little as you're comfortable with. My approach is specifically designed to create change without re-traumatising you.
How many sessions will I need?
Your program is six structured sessions. This isn't open-ended therapy that stretches on for years – the work is designed to create the shift and have you on your way. We'll map out a bespoke plan together at your consult so you know what to expect before you begin.
Do I need a GP referral or a mental health plan?
No. This is a private practice, so there's no referral required and no Medicare waitlist to navigate. You can book directly, and because clients resolve things quickly, I often have near-term availability.
Is it really possible to change this quickly?
I understand the scepticism – especially if you've felt out of control for years. But rapid doesn't mean superficial. Because the work recalibrates the response at its source rather than managing it over time, lasting change genuinely can happen in a handful of sessions. I've seen it in hundreds of clients, and I lived it myself.
